Paper sculpture and video installation
Sullivan Galleries, Chicago, IL

This video installation symbolically represents a fragmented identity. A projected video of an original poem is obscured by all the paper sculptures, forming shadows that both protect and obstruct the image and information from the video. This creates tension between the viewer and my self-portrait. Different elements cover my face; I am in the background while the white texts written in English are in the foreground. Spanish is my first language, which is often used against me. The piece as a whole gives just a glimpse of my personal experience of marginalized otherness.
