Gracias Por La Luz

Abad ◮ Anaya’s first performance expresses crisis and gratitude, after learning about the horrific actions to sterilize migrant women in 2020. Román and Alejandra repeat five times their poem Gracias Por La Luz, then break into rhythmic chants. We reflect on the attack on women and how ICE continues to violate human rights. We thank whistleblower Dawn Wooten for telling the truth. She witnessed forced hysterectomies on immigrant women. We acknowledge the traumatic experience for black women to learn about these crimes especially with the heinous history of sterilization. Thankfully she no longer works at the center operated by LaSalle Corrections, a private prison.
